چکیده

We have measured the in-plane scattered distributions of K+ ions incident on a Ag 001 surface with energies from 9 to 100 eV. Energyand angle-resolved spectra of the scattered flux show multiple peaks distinctly separated in energy corresponding to specific ion trajectories at the surface. Using a calculated interaction potential combined with the classical scattering simulation SAFARI we are able to model these trajectories and detail their energy-loss characteristics. At energies below approximately 24 eV we find that the ions scatter with a larger energy than one would expect from quasibinary collisions. Our trajectory analysis reveals this is a transition from the quasibinary behavior to a collective surface response more commonly associated with thermal energy atom scattering.

Epitaxial Ag(001) grown on MgO(001) and TiN(001): Twinning, surface morphology, and electron surface scattering

Epitaxial Ag(001) layers were deposited on MgO(001) in order to study electron surface scattering. X-ray reflection indicates 3D layer nucleation with a high rms surface roughness of 1.0 nm for a layer thickness d1⁄4 3.5 nm. X-ray diffraction shows that f111g twins form at d< 11 nm, followed by 2nd generation twinning for 11 nm< d< 120 nm. Increasing the growth temperature from 25 to 150 C supp...

Surface plasmon-mediated energy transfer in heterogap Au-Ag nanowires.

We report the observation of energy transfer from a gold (Au) nanodisk pair to a silver (Ag) nanowire across a 120 nm gap via surface plasmon resonance (SPR) excitation. The enhanced electromagnetic (EM) fields generated by Au SPR excitation induce oscillation of the conduction electrons in the Ag segment, transferring energy to it even though the Ag segment has only weak resonant interactions ...

Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering of Crystal Violet with Low Concentrations Using Self-Assembled Silver and Gold-Silver Core-Shell Nanoparticles

The active substrates in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy were prepared through self-assembly of nanoparticles on functionalized glasses. Colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were prepared chemically in two different sizes by reduction of AgNO3 using trisodium citrate and sodium borohydride. Gold–silver core–shell nanoparticles were also prepared to compare between the o...

Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues

ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....

Catalytic activities of noble metal atoms on WO3 (001): nitric oxide adsorption

Using first-principles density functional theory calculations within the generalized gradient approximation, we investigate the adsorption of NO molecule on a clean WO3(001) surface as well as on the noble metal atom (Cu, Ag, and Au)-deposited WO3(001) surfaces. We find that on a clean WO3 (001) surface, the NO molecule binds to the W atom with an adsorption energy (E ads) of -0.48 eV. On the C...
